Crystallization

Crystallization in downstream processes

There are different areas of application for crystallization in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. At Boehringer Ingelheim BioXcellence™ we are able to integrate crystallization into process design.

Crystallization of fermentation supernatant, or cell lysate, or process intermediates are an alternative purification method replacing chromatographic steps, while crystallization of the final bulk represents an alternative to lyophilization.
Solubility curves and phase diagrams will serve to guide process design optimization.

Crystallization—your benefits at a glance:

  • A systematic multi-stage approach that can streamline the development of preparative crystallization steps
  • High yields (> 95%) and short process times (4-24 hrs)
  • High quality > 99% according to HPLC
  • Efficient and scalable crystallization from impure solutions
  • Applicable at large cGMP scale (multiple kg scale)
