Boehringer Ingelheim BioXcellence™ owns several plasmid-based gene expression systems for E.coli. Combined with one of our reliable, proprietary host strains (B-, K12-derivatives) they form a broad toolbox for versatile protein production applications. Many years of experience gathered in the biopharmaceutical CMO business has enabled our scientists to quickly screen for an appropriate production system and production mode according to a target protein's nature. Our genetic toolbox enables protein production in either a soluble intracellular or periplasmatic space or as insoluble intracellular inclusion bodies. Employment of our continuously optimized high cell-density fermentation processes facilitates protein yields of more than 20 g/L of insoluble inclusion bodies and up to 15 g/L of soluble product. Depending on the protein's biochemical characteristics, Boehringer Ingelheim BioXcellence's™ established refolding protocols lead to recovery yields of more than 90% of native structured proteins from inclusion body product.
